Cynthia Malloy
Director of Christian Education and Youth Ministries

Cynthia Malloy has worked with young people for 20 years. She lived most of her life in the beautiful countryside of New York and Connecticut on the outskirts of NYC. She began working with youth as a volunteer at a juvenile detention facility while in college studying history and religion. This continued a lifelong love of studying the Bible. After college she spent a few years working in NYC but eventually the pollution and crowds overshadowed the charm and excitement of the city and she accepted a position at an Episcopal church in the suburbs of Connecticut. As a cradle Episcopalian, it felt like a home. There she ministered with the youth at one church as well as serving on the staff of another Episcopal church simultaneously, assisting them with desktop publishing. In a short time, however, her passion for the young people of the church took precedence and she gave up her publications responsibilities to focus solely on youth ministry. She was on staff there for five years, during which time she met her husband, Rod, a fundraiser, and had two children, Clara and Cove.

After the birth of her second child, Cynthia became a stay-at-home mom for six years. During this time, she worked as a volunteer on a state advocacy board for children, helped facilitate school/parent forums, and taught children’s Sunday school as well as several weekly adult Bible classes in a large church in CT.

In 2003, Cynthia and her family relocated to Florida. By this time, Clara and Cove were both in school full time during the day, and Cynthia was praying about ministering in the church again. At the same time, three of the Christian Education volunteers at St. Andrew’s approached the then Interim Rector about hiring a new youth minister. He told them to pray about it. With a fair amount of skepticism, they agreed. The very next week, in the fall of 2003, Cynthia and her family visited St. Andrew’s and felt very welcomed. After more prayer and discussion, Cynthia came on staff in February of 2004. She quickly fell in love with the people of St. Andrew’s and considers it a gift from God to be a part of the St. Andrew’s family.
